The Principals
Kelly Baltzell, M.A., is the founder and creative force behind Beyond Indigo, (www.beyondindigo.com), which began in 1997. With expertise in the Internet and mental health care arenas, Kelly brings to Beyond Indigo experience gained through her work for companies such as iVillage.com and America Online.
Kelly has her Masters in Counseling and Psychology. She worked as a practicing therapist counseling patients of all ages. Building on her interest in the then-budding Internet, she became the Site Manager for Online Psych, a pioneer producer of mental health content and community for America Online.
At Online Psych, she managed the staff and resources to design and deliver customized independent mental health programming for the AOL Health Channel. Because of her ability to identify business opportunities and implement effective marketing strategies, Online Psych was able to reach up to 4 million page views per day. Kelly skillfully promoted Online Psych and attained placement on AOL’s Welcome Screen.
Because of Online Psych’s overwhelming success, the company merged with iVillage.com, The Women’s Network. As part of the expanded company, iVillage.com negotiated for Kelly to use her talents as Director of Interactive Health. Her success in that area caused her to be promoted to Executive Director of Health. At iVillage, she effectively managed the day-to-day operations of three diverse online properties, creating new business partnerships and opportunities for the company. She recruited, trained and motivated a team of fifteen professionals. Her dedication and initiative helped to generate over 18 million page views per month for iVillage.com
Always hoping to make her personal vision a reality, Kelly began to focus full-time on Beyond Indigo. It has become one of the premiere websites for grief support information. With a million visitors a year, Beyond Indigo is listed in Forbes Best of the Web for the last eight years for death, dying and grief support.
Offline, Kelly writes the popular Healing Help brochures for Messenger, a monthly column titled Ask Kelly for YBNews from 2000 to 2008, and periodical pieces published in The Director, Caregiving Today and Thanos.
Kelly is dedicated to use technology to build support and community. This commitment and knowledge has been used by a variety of companies. Kelly is an accomplished professional with a proven track record of performance, dedication and leadership in both the Internet industry as well as the mental health field.
Jeanne Pelletier is Vice President of Technology for Beyond Indigo and the primary developer. Joining Beyond Indigo in 2000, she brings her expertise in developing interactive web applications that are responsive to users’ needs, intuitive to use and easy to maintain.
Prior to joining Beyond Indigo, Jeanne was the administrator of a large public mental health system for many years, responsible for designing, developing and managing innovative programs to integrate mentally ill people into the community. She oversaw an annual budget of approximately $10 million in services and a 35-member staff.
She began working as a host in Online Psych, a pioneer producer of mental health content and community for America Online in 1995, leading groups on such diverse topics as mental health system issues, depression and self-injury.
In 1997, she decided to pursue her interest in programming and database administration that had threaded through her work in both urban planning and human services. Intrigued by the power of the Internet, she pursued joint certificates in Web Development and Rapid Application Development from New Hampshire Community Technical College. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Urban Studies.
Jeanne believes strongly that the Internet has the power to change people’s lives. It is to that end that she uses her diverse experiences to develop robust and intuitive tools to help them do so.
Terri Reid is the Executive Director of Marketing for Beyond Indigo. Terri has been a marketing/public relations consultant for over 20 years and has represented such companies as Honeywell Sensing and Control, Honeywell Industrial Measurement and Control, URS, CTS Communications, The Quaker Oats Company, Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Illinois, Chicago Research and Trading and the Chicago MLS Board of Realtors. She has worked with businesses from Fortune 50 to small independent sole proprietorships, and feels that each business has its own story to tell that differentiates it from its competitors.
She believes strongly in using unique marketing tools and public relations to increase visibility and works with businesses to help them create their own message and tools.
Terri has been a speaker on Marketing and Branding at national trade conferences. She has been published in a number of national publications including The Chicago Tribune, The Washington Post, The Director, Cessna Pilot Magazine and Sensor Magazine.
Shannon Rose Farrell is the Client Services Manager for Beyond Indigo. She has been involved with the company since August of 2004. She has used her skill of web design along with her degree in Psychology to help create websites and other visual materials that focus on the needs of our clients. Shannon is a member of the Association of Veterinary Practice Management Consultants & Advisors (AVPMCA).
Shannon is also a true Renaissance woman, with varied and exciting interests. She played on the International Rugby Team, she is an avid photographer, she speaks Spanish and is a volunteer for the English as a Second Language Program, and she has taken courses in Cultural Diversity with emphasis on Japanese, Hispanic and Australian Aboriginal cultures. Shannon is also a licensed massage therapist and holds a Real Estate License.
